Install OpenElec for Raspberry Pi from Windows

Tech

I had to find a workaround to the instructions that OpenElec had on their website because the SD card formatter could not recognize my SD card’s full size.

To install OpenElec in Windows you can use the Xbian installer. You’ll need two things:

  1. The .img file for the OpenElec distribution you want. You can find them here.
  2. The Xbian installer.

Run the Xbian installer and go to the “Advanced mode” tab. Pick your SD card from the drop down and then click “Select .img”. Navigate to your .img file and click restore
